What
is Homeschooling?
Questions and Answers about Homeschooling
For me homeschooling is a natural extention of parenting. You teach a child the very basics in life from the time they are born.
And for the record, we were wanting to homeschool from the beginning. But, as young parents, we let the opinion of others influence our decision. And as we both went to public schools, and we turned out okay. We had so many fears of not being able to "cover all the bases" we opted to enroll in public school. We found the best school district (in our opinion) in our area and bought a house just before our oldest son started kindergarten. Always with the reservation that if it didn't work out we could try homeschooling.
After a few years of early/late buses, senseless homework/busywork, and playground bullies, my oldest son finished his fourth grade year and practically begged me not to make him go back. And my daughter who would have been starting 2nd grade asked if she could stay home as well. So now we are Homeschoolers. And we love it!!!
Homeschooling
(also called home education and sometimes spelled home schooling) is the
education of children at home and in the community, in contrast to education
in an institution such as a public or parochial school. In the United States,
homeschooling is the focus of a substantial minority movement among parents
who wish to provide their children with a custom or more complete education
which they feel is unattainable in most public or even private schools.

Why
would I Homeschool?
Homeschooling isn't for everyone. Read a few of these links, then visit your local public school, check out their policies on buses, health education, hiring practices, statistics of violent crime and drug abuse. In addition, if you have a very intelligent child who loves to learn, be very careful about your decision. Ultimately you need to do what is best for your family and your child.
